About Muscle Guard
What is Muscle Guard?+
Muscle Guard is the GLP-1 companion app built around muscle preservation. It tracks injections and tablets, scans plates with AI, monitors body composition, and helps you protect lean mass while you lose fat on every approved GLP-1 — including compounded preparations.
Is Muscle Guard a medical device?+
No. Muscle Guard is a self-tracking companion and coach. It is not a medical device, does not provide diagnostic information, does not recommend dose changes, and does not substitute for clinical judgement. Always consult your healthcare provider for medical decisions.
How is Muscle Guard different from other industry apps?+
Muscle Guard is the only one built around muscle preservation as the headline. We publish an open-access, cited research library on lean mass loss, and the only one whose hero metric (the Muscle Guard Score) combines protein adherence, training frequency, and body composition into a single weekly read.
Which GLP-1 medications does Muscle Guard support?+
Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide), Mounjaro and Zepbound (tirzepatide), Rybelsus (oral semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide), Trulicity (dulaglutide), plus compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide preparations. The app knows the standard titration schedule for each.
Where is Muscle Guard built?+
In Johannesburg, by HK Brand Expert (Pty) Ltd. Read more on our story page.
Using the app
How much does Muscle Guard cost?+
Free for the basics. Pro is R99 per month or R899 per year (approximately USD 5.99, EUR 5.99, GBP 5.49 in equivalent regions), with a 7-day free trial. No card needed to start.
How do I cancel Pro?+
Through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Does it work with Apple Watch, Whoop, or Oura?+
Yes — but with one important step. Muscle Guard reads from Apple Health on iOS and Health Connect on Android, NOT from your wearable directly. So you first need your wearable (Apple Watch, Whoop, Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, etc.) to be syncing into Apple Health or Health Connect. Once that link is in place, grant Muscle Guard permission inside Profile → Connect Apple Health / Health Connect. Strength sessions, heart rate, workouts, weight, and step counts then flow through automatically — deduplicated across all your sources so a workout logged on Apple Watch + iPhone does not get counted twice. If you skip the iOS/Android Health setup, your wearable data will not reach Muscle Guard.
Where is the AI plate scan data sent?+
Macro detection runs through Google Gemini for both plate scans and nutrition-label reads. The image is not stored after processing. Packaged-food lookups use Open Food Facts. All three paths are disclosed transparently in-app.
What is the Meal Planner and how does it work?+
Pro users get a 7-day plan built from a curated GLP-1 and muscle-preservation recipe library. Choose 3, 4, or 5 meals a day — the 5-meal layout adds two snacks, common for hitting protein when appetite is small. The planner respects your daily protein target within your carb and fat caps; if a day cannot reach protein, it suggests a shake. Swap any meal, regenerate any week, and export a deduped shopping list as a PDF.
What does the Correlations engine actually tell me?+
From day 14 with an early-signal tier (or day 21 for clear patterns), the Correlations card surfaces habit pairs from your own log using Spearman rank correlations — hydration and energy, protein and loss rate, carb-heavy days and next-day symptoms, injection day and mood. When a pair does not correlate for you, we say so honestly instead of inventing a pattern.
What are Cycle Signals?+
For weekly injectors, Cycle Signals identifies which day of your dose cycle is your best day and which is your hardest, plus a per-cycle diary of feeling and symptom averages. It answers the "when in the week do I feel worst" question every GLP-1 user asks.
Is Muscle Guard available in my country?+
Available worldwide on the App Store and Google Play. ZAR is the default; toggle USD, EUR, or GBP on the pricing strip.
Can I use Muscle Guard with compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide?+
Yes. First-class support, with custom dose schedules.
My GLP-1 has stopped working — what does Muscle Guard show me?+
Plateaus and tachyphylaxis are common. The app activates a 14-day Plateau Protocol that adjusts macros and training, and tracks the change in your weekly Muscle Guard Score.
